Putoei National Park team successfully revives exhausted mountain goat after daring rescue from Kraseaw Dam waters.

SUPHANBURI, Thailand – A thrilling rescue operation unfolded at Kraseaw Dam in Suphanburi when a mountain goat (serow) was found struggling in the water, near drowning, February 8. The rescue team from the Putoei National Park, along with veterinary staff, swiftly responded and successfully saved the animal.

Ms. Sawitree Cheuapong, Head of Putoei National Park, reported that villagers had informed authorities about a mountain goat that had become exhausted while swimming and was at risk of drowning in the middle of the Kraseaw Dam, located in Dan Chang District. Upon receiving the alert, the team quickly coordinated with veterinarians and staff from various agencies, including the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Sanctuary and local police, to rush to the scene.

Dr. Nathanon Panpetch, Chief Veterinarian at Bueng Chawak Wildlife Sanctuary, along with Dr. Laksana Prasitchai from the Wildlife Conservation Division, arrived at the site to provide assistance. The goat was found to be severely fatigued from swimming and in a state of shock.

To ensure the goat’s safety and manage the situation effectively, the veterinarians decided to sedate it at 11:48 a.m. and transported the animal to a secure location at the Putoei National Park’s protection unit. The transfer, which took about 30 minutes, ensured the animal’s well-being.

Afterward, the veterinary team conducted health checks, administered vitamins, provided subcutaneous fluids, and revived the animal from sedation. By 1:14 p.m., the mountain goat had fully recovered and was able to walk back into the forest, healthy and strong.

Ms. Sawitree stated that the staff would continue to monitor the goat’s condition to ensure its full recovery and safe return to its natural habitat.

This rescue serves as another success in Thailand’s wildlife conservation efforts and highlights the importance of collaboration between the government and the public in protecting wildlife.
