NAN, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited Nan province on Nov 3 to review the progress of the Nan City Art and Cultural Center and Eastern Lanna Cultural Learning Center project. Accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Interior and Nan provincial authorities, Anutin toured the development site in Nan’s capital district. The visit was led by Banthoon Lamsam, Vice Chairman of the Rak Pa Nan Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving Nan’s cultural and historical heritage.
The project, located on nine rai of land in Nan’s historic district where the former provincial hall once stood, was designated as a protected site by the Cabinet in 2005. In 2023, the Ministry of Interior tasked the foundation with launching the project, which includes an art and cultural center, multi-purpose hall, service building, botanical garden, and activity plaza. These facilities are part of a master plan to conserve and revitalize the area, transforming it into a hub for cultural learning and heritage preservation.
Upon completion, the center will feature rotating exhibitions housing Nan’s Creative Center, a space for digital learning, a children’s activity area, seminar zones, meeting rooms, and a digital library. Designed as a resource for residents and visitors, the center will support education on local history and culture for all ages. The project aligns with His Majesty the King’s vision of preserving Thai heritage, a mission actively supported by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
The Rak Pa Nan Foundation, in partnership with Kasikorn Bank, has also contributed 36 million baht to construct a new Nan Provincial Red Cross office. Situated on treasury land formerly occupied by the Revenue Office, the new facility covers 2.87 rai and is expected to be completed by May 2025.
