NONTHABURI, 7 September 2015 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Admiral Narong Pipatanasai says the 400-baht monthly subsidy project to new-born infants reflects the importance the government has attached to newborn care. Speaking at a press conference on the project, Adminiral Narong said this project has never been implemented in Thailand, making it a good start to nurture babies according to their age as well as reduce a gap in the society.

The press conference was held at Wayupak Convention Center, Chaeng Watthana Government Complex on Monday with participation of Pol Gen Adul Sangsingkaew, Minister of Social Development and Human Security and representatives of related government units.

The newborn subsidy project is jointly drawn up by three ministries – Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Interior.

The campaign will provide a 400-baht monthly subsidy for a child born to a poor family between 1 October 2015 and 30 September 2016. The money is expected to enable the family to access better healthcare for its newborn. To be eligible for the subsidy, one of the parents must be Thai nationals, and their household income must be no more than 3,000 baht a month. The subsidy will be provided for twelve months after the child’s birth.
