PHUKET, 04 September 2015 – Deputy National Police Chief Police General Aek Angsananont on Thursday visited the Port In-Port Port Out (PIPO) Command Center in Phuket. He instructed related officials to continue their efforts in suppressing illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the area.
Pol Gen Aek disclosed that officials were ordered to continue collecting information and evaluate anti-IUU fishing efforts in September and October. There have been no reports of illegal activity in the area. Pol Gen Aek also indicated that Phuket fishermen have kept to authorized fishing equipment.
Meanwhile, the Command Center for Combating Illegal Fishing has set two monthly fishing ban periods. The first period starts from the 1st – 3rd of the month and the second period from the 16th – 17th. Daily fishing will also be allowed between 6 AM to 6 PM.
