Chiang Mai province’s Doi Inthanon, known for its breathtaking frosty landscapes, has attracted a substantial number of tourists seeking a unique cold-weather experience. Doi Inthanon, standing at 2,565 meters above sea level in the Chom Thong district, is a popular destination during Thailand’s cold season, which spans from November to February. The occurrence of hoarfrost, or “moei khab” as it’s locally known, is a common sight on low-lying plants in various mountainous regions in the North and Northeast, including Doi Chiang Dao, Doi Angkhang, Doi Phahompok, Phu Rua, and Phu Luang.

The influx of tourists to Doi Inthanon led to traffic congestion on the roads leading to the summit, situated within the Doi Inthanon National Park. Popular spots like the Kew Mae Pan Viewpoint saw long queues of visitors clad in winter attire, eager to capture their moments amidst the frosty backdrop.

Doi Inthanon National Park Chief Kriangkrai Chaipiset said visitors were taking advantage of the prolonged New Year holiday to enjoy their time in the park. A significant number of these visitors have opted to stay overnight in the vicinity. He also urged motorists to be extra careful when visiting the peak, noting that mechanical issues frequently led to accidents in the area. (NNT)
