Drones to be used in restive south

The Defense Technology Institute has given the military drone prototypes to be used in the violence-torn southern region of the kingdom.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, on behalf of the Defense Technology Institute, handed out unmanned aerial vehicles to the Thai army, the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Department of Corrections.

These prototypes will assist officials in security-related operations.

They can stay 500 feet in the air for as long as 40 minutes and can be controlled from 2 kilometers away. With their ability to send live thermal images back to monitors, these aerial vehicles are expected to save lives of security officials in the southernmost provinces.

The cost of this type drone is about 500,000 baht each.
