BANGKOK, Dec 17 – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Tuesday resolved to accept all cases involving protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban and his associates concerning the street protests in Bangkok and some other provinces since August 3, the DSI chief said.

Director-general Tarit Pengdit spoke after a meeting of DSI board on a special case chaired by caretaker deputy prime minister Pracha Promnok. He said the meeting resolved to accept those cases in which Mr Suthep and his close associates have been accused of committing crimes in connection with political rallies in the capital and some other provinces since August 3 and other protest-related cases.

To ensure efficiency and transparency, the DSI chief said, all cases in which Mr Suthep’s alleged unlawful acts and those of his group have been accepted as special cases provided that the cases are complicated and warrant the special case law application.

Three agencies–the DSI, police and prosecutors–will jointly launch an investigation of the special cases. A special investigation team will meet at 2pm Wednesday.

The DSI accepted 20 cases as special cases out of 60 cases from the police.
