BANGKOK, 27 September 2014 Mae Mali the hippopotamus was given a birthday celebration at Dusit Zoo yesterday for her 48th birthday.
Mae Mali, currently the oldest hippopotamus in all of Thailand’s zoos, was treated with a birthday cake made of fruit. Her ‘grandchild’, Makham, also joined Mae Mali in feasting on the cake.
As a treat to visitors to the zoo, a parade of tamed animals and performing monkeys from Lopburi Zoo was also held.
Mae Mali the hippopotamus has given birth to 14 calves, who are now living at zoos all around the country. Dusit Zoo will be celebrating Mae Mali’s 48th birthday until Sunday.
