Employing painting skills to portray phenomena both political and natural, a Thai artist achieves his ultimate aim to transform his own perspective to colourful art pieces.

Brush strokes on canvas reflecting social conflict and the natural disaster taking place on the blue planet is the work of Somsak Chaothadapong . He conveys his own perceptions and experience in Thai society to viewers.

Dystopia is his first solo exhibition in 25 years

“Dystopia is an antonym of Utopia. Utopia is an ideal society, in which politics and the ruling system possess highly perfect and fair qualities. Dystopia is the opposite side. It is what happens in the Thai society”, the artist said.

“Violence escalated into riot. Rifts of people holding differing opinions should not occur in our society. That feeling toward these incidents is imprinted in my memory. My work represents them to urge people to avoid recurrence in the future,” he said.

For art lovers, the exhibition is on display until June 30 at the Wangna Art Gallery at the Bundit Patanasilpa Institute.
