CHANTHABURI, Thailand – Police responded to a gold theft incident at the well-known Yaowarat Gold Shop inside a major shopping mall in Chanthaburi at 10:40 AM on October 24. The suspect, a man between 35-38 years old, was described as wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans, and a mask to cover his face, with a noticeable earring on his left ear.
According to the shop staff, the man initially posed as a customer, asking to see gold and inquiring about prices. He requested to try on a gold ring, weighing one baht and valued at approximately 45,000 baht. While appearing to inspect the ring, the thief handed the staff a brown envelope, which he implied contained money.
As soon as the man put the ring on his finger, he fled. The shop staff opened the envelope and discovered it only contained tissue paper, not cash. They quickly pursued the suspect but saw him escaping in a red Suzuki Swift with the license plate “Khor Nor 4513 Chonburi,” parked in the shopping mall’s back lot. The thief drove off in the direction of Sirikarn Village, Tha Chang Subdistrict, Muang District, Chanthaburi Province.
Authorities swiftly sent out a radio alert to intercept the suspect. CCTV footage revealed the man stopped to remove the car’s license plate but hadn’t yet left the area. Police are now on the lookout for the vehicle, which has a distinctive sticker on the rear door and a dent on the driver’s door. Authorities are confident that the suspect will be apprehended soon.
