An earthquake in central Vietnam was felt as far as Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, prompting a flurry of social media activity in the area. The quake, which occurred at 11:35 AM on July 28, registered a magnitude of 5.3 with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located 361 kilometers from Ubon Ratchathani city.



Many residents of Ubon Ratchathani, particularly those in high-rise buildings, reported feeling the tremors. This is a rare experience for locals, as earthquakes are uncommon in the region. Initial reports indicate that there was no damage to property or injuries.

Mr. Adisak Sawisit, a nursing inspector at Prince Ubon Ratchathani Hospital, described feeling dizzy while working on the first floor of the hospital at around 11:37 AM. He initially thought the sensation was due to personal discomfort until colleagues on the higher floors, including the fifth and sixth, reported feeling the building shake. The tremor lasted for less than a minute.



Following the incident, it was confirmed that the tremors were a result of an earthquake in Vietnam, which had an impact in Ubon Ratchathani. This was the first time many locals experienced an earthquake, causing some initial shock and concern. However, there were no reports of damage to the hospital’s services or any other infrastructure in the area.

High-rise buildings, including shopping malls, hospitals, and hotels in Ubon Ratchathani, also felt the earthquake. Fortunately, no damage was reported as a result of the event.
