BANGKOK, 23 July 2015 – Election Commission (EC) Chairman Suphachai Somcharoen has indicated it is every body’s duty to promote transparent elections.
The EC Chairman said in a recent seminar on fair elections that the objective of the election is not to prevent corruption but to echo the voice of the people.
It is also a key mechanism, under the democratic principles, to select good individuals to represent people to work in the Parliament. The draft charter has been revised several times to make sure it will pave the way for the transparent elections.
He added that whatever the election model Thailand will adopt, it is important to take into consideration the pros and cons of each model. It should serve no one’s but public interest. Measures should also be in place to assure no vote buying can be committed.
