BANGKOK, 13 December 2013 The Election Commission has officially announced the registration period for candidates running in the upcoming general election. According to the EC, it will register constituency-based members of parliament between December 23-27, and party-list candidates between December 28 and January 1.
The Election Commission held a meeting on Thursday to prepare its officials for the February 2 general election. Commissioner Praphan Naikowit said after the meeting that the west building of the Thai-Japan sports complex in Din Daeng was expected to be the venue for the registration of candidates.
Mr. Praphan added that the EC was also deliberating the organization of constituencies, because the population in certain constituencies has changed. The number of seats for certain provinces would also be revised, because Bung Kan has become the newest province of Thailand.
The registration time frame will also be announced in the Government Gazette.
