BANGKOK, 27 December 2013 The Election Commission (EC) is set to hold the registration of Bangkok’s constituency-based MP candidates at a parking lot of the Government Complex during December 28-January 1.
Speaking of the MP candidate registration for all 33 constituencies of Bangkok which is scheduled from tomorrow until January 1, EC Secretary-General Phuchong Nutrawong announced that the commission had resolved to change the registration venue from Gymnasium 1 of the Thai-Japan Youth Center in Din Daeng to a bus parking lot inside the Government Complex on Chaeng Wattana Road.
The relocation was made because the EC viewed that since the parking lot is an open space, an evacuation would be easier to conduct should protesters attempt to besiege the site. A prompt evacuation would reduce risks of property damage and physical harm on the registrants.
Previously, members of the Student and People Network for Thailand’s Reform clashed with police officers while trying to break into the Thai-Japan Youth Center, where the registration of party-list candidates was taking place. The incident ended with over a hundred injuries, two deaths and extensive damages on nearby properties.
