BANGKOK, 7 August 2014 –The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr Suthasri Wongsamarn yesterday gave the opening speech at the Asia-Pacific Regional Education Conference (APREC) being held from August 6th to 8th, 2014.
Dr Suthasri Wongsamarn said that next year will be the 25th anniversary of the World Declaration on Education for All (Jomtien Declaration). Since then, UNESCO members have been putting the utmost efforts into improving education. Thus, it is a great opportunity to look back and see the future. The education improvement after 2015 will create global citizens and create partnerships to develop global education.
She also said that since the Jomtien Declaration was announced in 1990, Thailand has achieved education for all in the six essential areas of: childhood education, basic education for all, learning opportunities for youths and adults and living skill developments, the youth and adult literacy rate, gender impartiality and equality, and a quality education system improvement.
Meanwhile, the five sub-topics in this forum are basic education, skills and performance development to become global citizens, future teachers, budget management and an exchange of problem solving techniques.
Taking place at the Royal Orchid Sheraton, Bangkok, the APREC is divided into two segments. August 6th-7th, high-level officials meet to discuss the Regional Dialogue on Education for All (EFA) and Beyond, and also achievements, challenges and educational directions in the future. Meanwhile, August 8th, ministers from member countries will attend the Ministerial Forum on Education Beyond 2015.
