SARABURI, Thailand – An 84-year-old man was tragically killed at home by his pet dog, “Jao Dam,” a Thai-Pitbull mix he had raised since it was a pup. Authorities suspect the dog, which had been chained for an extended period, acted out of stress, Jan 9.
The incident occurred in Din So Phong Community, Thap Kwang Subdistrict, Kaeng Khoi District. The wooden stilt house showed signs of struggle, with dried bloodstains and scattered belongings beneath it. The black male dog, “Jao Dam,” was chained nearby, barking loudly as officers arrived.
The victim, identified as Khantee, was found beneath the house, with severe injuries to his right arm, which had been gnawed down to the bone. The arm from wrist to elbow was missing, and search efforts for the missing limb have been inconclusive. Other parts of his body, including the left arm and torso, bore multiple bite marks. Officers estimate the victim had been deceased for over 24 hours.
A rescue worker from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation stated they are unsure whether the dog consumed the missing arm or dragged it elsewhere.
Prayong, 52, the victim’s son, explained that “Jao Dam,” a 5-year-old mix of a Thai dog and a Pitbull, had been raised by his father since it was a pup. The father loved the dog dearly, but the prolonged chaining might have caused it significant stress.
The victim’s daughter, Ms. Tim, said she discovered the tragedy during her morning visit. Her father typically lived with her elder brother, who has mental health issues, but she had no prior warning of the attack.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident while securing the dog to prevent further harm. (TNA)
