BANGKOK, Dec 11 – A new election alone will not end Thailand’s political conflicts, a grouping of high-level state officials said today.
The officials urged disputing parties to jointly find peaceful solutions prior to the next general election and sign a social contract for concrete national reform.
The senior officials at the level of permanent secretaries from all state agencies urgently met today to thrash out resolutions they believe would help resolve the country’s political stalemate.
Tongthong Chandrangsu, permanent secretary for the Prime Minister’s Office, speaking on behalf of the group, said officials were concerned with the current political situation and agreed that all parties and players should together find peaceful solutions before the next election and come up with a social contract as a long-term solution for the country.
Mr Tongthong and two other senior officials, Ampon Kitti-ampon, secretary general of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), and Chukiat Rattanachaichan, secretary general of the Council of State, initiated the meeting.
