BANGKOK, 21 April 2012 – The Emergency Medical Institute of Thailand (EMIT) is poised to prepare rescue officials for earthquake operation following signs that Thailand could face harsher natural disasters.
The EMIT has planned to increase the number of rapid mobile medical teams so that there will be enough medical staff at risk areas.
A training session will be held on April 23 to produce two more batches of emergency medical workers. Fully equipped six-wheeled ambulances known as super ambulances have been sent out to disaster-prone areas to provide immediate assistance.
Meanwhile, local rescue operators have been urged to always get their life-saving and communication devices ready for use and to work closely with related agencies.
The earthquake operation project is being piloted in Kanchanaburi province due to its closeness to active faults. The project will be carried out in other risk areas later on.
