BANGKOK, Nov 7 — Employers are being asked to provide information on their foreign employees in order to speed up the process of nationality verification identification, a senior Labour Ministry official said today.

Pichit Nilthongkum, director of Employment Department’s Office of Foreign Workers Administration, said information on migrant workers is being compiled after registration of the workers and their dependents of Myanmar, Lao and Cambodian nationality ended on October 31.

So far, nationality verification identification information on some 6,000 Cambodians has been compiled, he said, adding that officials are urgently compiling information on migrant workers of Myanmar and Lao nationality.

Lao officials have been asked to dispatch a team to help in the ongoing nationality verification identification process of workers from that country, said Mr Pichit.

About 1.5 million of workers and their dependents from the three countries have been registered with the ministry.

Of the total, some 50,000 workers are employed in the fisheries industry, said Mr Pichit.

Meanwhile, Labour Minister Gen Surasak Karnjanarat said the deadline for migrant workers to undertake the nationality verification identification is March 31 next year.

Those who fail to complete it will be sent back to their countries, Gen Surasak added.
