BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Culture has announced the start of the End of Buddhist Lent Festival on Oct 13 in Nong Bua Daeng district, Chaiyaphum province. Running until October 16, the festival will feature a procession of intricately designed incense trees and cultural performances celebrating the traditional incense merit practice.
In collaboration with local authorities and cultural organizations, the festival offers a range of activities, including mass dance performances, traditional contests, and exhibitions of local arts and crafts. The highlight of the event is the incense tree procession, a symbol of peace and tranquility in Buddhist tradition. Visitors can also participate in workshops to create cultural products such as miniature incense trees and traditional crafts.
Under the leadership of Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, the ministry seeks to promote unique provincial festivals at a national and international level. The initiative is set to enhance cultural tourism and generate economic benefits for local communities, positioning Thailand as a prime destination for cultural experiences.
Rooted in local Buddhist customs, the Incense Merit Festival involves the offering of incense trees as part of religious worship.
