BANGKOK,(NNT) – The Ministry of Energy has been successful in restructuring energy prices while expressing keen interest in seeking new alternative energies.

Talking about the ministry’s performance in 2015, Energy Minister Gen Anantaporn Kanjanarat said the ministry had already resolved 3 main issues deemed to be major threats to the country’s energy industry. These issues were 1) unfair energy prices that do not reflect the real cost, 2) outdated alternative energy related regulations, and 3) a lack of long-term energy reform plans.

Although most of the problems have been fixed, he said the low-income earners will continue to receive assistance from the government, especially the burden on prices of cooking gas. \

Furthermore, the ministry will encourage the use of alternatives such as the biomass energy, which will in turn lead to the reduction of accumulated waste in the country.

As for this year’s target, Gen Anantaporn said the ministry aims to prevent power scarcity as the country must have power reserves of more than 15 percent.
