BANGKOK, Nov 2 – The President of the European Commission, José Manuel, Barroso will visit Thailand on Sunday to strengthen bilateral ties between this country and the European Union (EU).
Mr Barroso, upon arriving in Bangkok, will hold a bilateral talks with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House to discuss various issues, including developments in Thailand and Europe, the strengthening of all aspects of Thai-EU relations promotion of bilateral cooperation, especially in the area of capacity building, and other regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Ms Yingluck will host an official dinner in honour of Mr Barroso at Government House after a joint press conference.
Mr Barroso will leave Thailand on Monday.
The landmark visit to Thailand is the first official visit ever to be paid by the President of the European Commission, one of the three key institutions of the EU.
The visit not only signifies the importance the EU attaches to promoting good relations with Thailand as its key partner in Southeast Asia, but equally provides an excellent opportunity for Thailand to stress the importance the kingdom attaches to enhancing its relations with the EU, both as an important global player and Thailand’s key partner in trade and investment.
