BANGKOK, March 31 – The Thai Labour Ministry has an evacuation plan in place for Thai nationals in South Korea after North Korea on Saturday declared it was in a “state of war” with South Korea.

Labour Minister Phadermchai Sasomsub said he ordered the Thai labour attaché in South Korea to conduct a survey on the number of Thai labourers and Thai citizens residing in the northern part of South Korea, bordering North Korea and to clarify an evacuation plan for them.

The number of Thai workers registered with the ministry of labour and Thais married to South Korean citizens is estimated at 44,000 people.

Initially, an evacuation plan includes preparation of a charter flight and ship to move Thai nationals to Japan in case tensions escalate into violence.
