Ex-permanent secretary gets 10 years over failure to declare assets

Bangkok – The court of appeal bench has upheld the verdict of the Supreme Court of Justice’s Criminal Decision for Persons Holding Political Positions to imprison former permanent secretary for transport Supoj Saplom for 10 years following his abnormal wealth case.

The bench, comprised of nine justices, upheld the 10-year imprisonment sentence by majority vote against Supoj who was found guilty of intentionally submitting false asset and liability lists. His assets worth more than 64 million baht will be seized.

Supoj is also banned from a government office position for five years without probation. The Supreme Court of Justice’s Criminal Decision for Persons Holding Political Positions delivered the verdict on 26th September 2017.

Supoj was taken to the Bangkok Remand Prison by ambulance due to his illness.
