BANGKOK, 24 August 2012  – The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency is calling for more use of renewable energy in the country.

Director of the Bureau of Energy Research, Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Sumrit Haema said on Thursday that Thailand is now in more need of renewable energy as its energy supply has been decreasing to near the crisis level.

Mr. Sumrit stated that Thailand has been forced to buy power from neighboring Laos and Myanmar all along as it does not have sufficient sources of energy to meet domestic demand.

He noted that Thailand should promote more use of renewable and recycled energy, such as solar, wind, and bio-fuel to prepare itself for any undesirable situation if the country should have conflicts with its neighbors.

Mr. Sumrit added that the Department is now studying all legal aspects to draft the recyclable energy law, which he conceded that much remains to be done to push for the passing of the legislation.
