The objective is to enhance tourist attractions and extend visitor stays, ensuring that the extended festival does not imply 30 days of continuous water festivities, said Paetongtan.

The National Soft Power Strategy Committee has detailed the budget allocation for the government’s soft power promotion policy, focusing on 11 key industries.

The 5.1 billion baht budget, already included in various ministry budgets, is set for review by the larger Soft Power Committee, led by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin, before proceeding to the Cabinet for final approval, expected by May 2024.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Pheu Thai Party leader and vice-chairperson of the Committee, underscored that the budget originates from advisors from various sectors, primarily in the private sector, with the government’s role being facilitative. She also acknowledged the public’s concerns and interest in the 11 industries, which are believed to benefit from this initiative.

Addressing the extended Songkran festival plans for April, Paetongtan clarified that traditional events from April 13th-15th will be complemented by additional activities throughout the month across 77 provinces.
