The Chaophya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital Foundation has conducted extensive research on the herb Fah Talai Jone (Andrographis Paniculata) and its widespread use across different regions. In collaboration with Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital, they have invented, studied, and conducted preliminary clinical trials on an Andrographis Paniculata throat spray.
The spray has proven effective in relieving symptoms such as sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and coughing. Notably, it offers similar results to foreign herbal extracts available in the market but with a shorter treatment duration and lower cost. This initiative not only reduces the dependence on imported throat sprays but also supports the local economy by generating income for farmers.
Furthermore, research has indicated that Andrographis Paniculata also aids in reducing the incidence of thrombosis in COVID-19 patients. Thrombosis, a potentially fatal complication following COVID-19 infection, can be mitigated with this herb.
In a significant breakthrough, a professor from Mahidol University, through proteomics research, discovered that patients who consumed Andrographis Paniculata in the form of coarsely ground powder containing andrographolide at a dose of 180 mg/day for 5 days exhibited a protein that helps alleviate the severity of COVID-19 by reducing the occurrence of thromboembolism. This groundbreaking finding highlights the potential of Andrographis Paniculata in reducing the risk of death from thromboembolism and alleviating Long Covid symptoms. However, further research is still required to explore this effect thoroughly. (PRD)
