Bangkok police have arrested Mongkol Preesukkasem, who is accused of impersonating a prosecutor, during a lecture he was giving at a local high school in Nonthaburi. The arrest, which took place last Thursday, was based on a Criminal Court warrant issued on June 20. Mongkol is charged with illegal impersonation, wearing a prosecutor’s uniform, fraud, and importing false information into a computer system.
Investigations have revealed that Mongkol had posted images on his social media page of himself in a prosecutor’s uniform, complete with honor pins and insignias, to mislead people into believing he was a prosecutor. These allegations were brought forward by the Attorney-General’s Office. Further scrutiny by prosecutors uncovered that Mongkol had informally advised a senior prosecutor, though this advisory role was never officially recognized.
The investigation is set to widen, with the interviewing of prosecution witnesses scheduled for Wednesday. The photos in question also depicted Mongkol at promotion ceremonies alongside high-ranking officials from various state agencies, further suggesting his attempts to authenticate his fraudulent persona.
