Father of missing Chinese model pleads for help from Thai authorities as concerns grow over his son’s mysterious disappearance nearly a month ago.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The father of Yang Zeqi, a Chinese model, on January 16, has filed a petition with the Royal Thai Police Commissioner-General, expressing concern over his son’s disappearance in Thailand since late December. He fears his son may have suffered a fate similar to “Wang Xing.”

Ratchaphon Sirisakorn, a lawyer, accompanied Mr. Yang Haitao, the father of Yang Zeqi, to submit a formal request for assistance in locating his son. The model was invited to Thailand for a movie shoot and arrived in the country on December 21, 2024, via a flight from Beijing to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The last communication with Yang Zeqi was on December 29, during a WeChat video call with his mother. During the call, Yang appeared anxious, showed signs of distress, and had visible bruises around his eyes. His father suspected he might have been assaulted. Adding to the concern, Yang’s hands remained placed on a table throughout the call, raising suspicions that someone else might have been holding the phone for him.

When asked if Yang had sought help during the call, his father said no explicit requests or signals were made, possibly due to surveillance or being under duress.

The family reported the case to Thailand’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) on January 10, but no significant progress has been made. Yang’s last known location, shared with his girlfriend and friends, indicated he was in the areas of Phop Phra or Mae Sot in Tak Province. Whether he crossed the border remains uncertain, and there have been no updates on his social media accounts.

Initially, the family felt reassured about Yang’s safety in Thailand, considering the country’s reputation for hospitality. However, his disappearance has left them deeply worried.

Lawyer Ratchaphon believes individuals from Thailand, China, and Myanmar may be involved. Photos provided by Yang included a Thai-registered vehicle that could help the investigation. He urged Thai, Chinese, and Myanmar authorities to collaborate, emphasizing the cross-border nature of the case. Any lack of cooperation could hinder the investigation.

Evidence, including images of vehicles used for transportation and photos Yang shared with friends, has been submitted to authorities for further investigation. The father appealed to Thailand’s Prime Minister, the Royal Thai Police, and related agencies to expedite the search for his son. (TNA)
