BANGKOK, Thailand – Pichai Chunhavajira, Minister of Finance, along with Deputy Minister of Finance Chulphan Amornwiwat and other financial officials, held a press conference at Government House to announce the approval of the 10,000 Baht economic stimulus project on September 17. The plan targets vulnerable groups, including those with state welfare cards and people with disabilities, reaching approximately 14.5 million recipients.

The distribution of funds will be divided over four days: September 25, 26, 27, and 30. This initiative aims to alleviate the cost of living, stimulate purchasing power, and inject money into the economy quickly. The project was part of the government’s plan to boost economic confidence, particularly in light of anticipated economic challenges in 2024, including slow industrial and agricultural growth, reduced consumer spending, and high household debt.

The second phase of the project will continue with a similar 10,000 Baht distribution. The method of disbursement, whether entirely digital or otherwise, is still under review.

Chulphan advised the public to link their bank accounts to the PromptPay system for smoother transactions. Those who do not complete the process in time will still have three additional attempts to receive the money, scheduled for October 22, November 22, and December 22.

Regarding future economic measures, Pichai confirmed that further stimulus packages are planned for other registered groups, with a continued emphasis on using a digital wallet system to enhance long-term economic competitiveness.

For people with disabilities, there is no age or income limit for receiving the funds, as long as they are registered with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
