BANGKOK – The Department of Fine Arts has rescheduled the date to renovate the Erawan shrine from August 24 to August 26 while completion is expected soon afterwards.

After the Erawan Shrine at Ratchaprasong intersection sustained damages from the August 17 explosion, Mr Somkuan Oomtrakul, Director of the Office of Traditional Arts, Department of Fine Arts, has confirmed readiness to begin the renovation of the shrine this August 26. The date was slightly postponed from the earlier schedule of August 24.

He revealed that the blast has left the Brahma statue within the shrine with a broken chin and scratches on the hands and some other areas. Meanwhile, the shrine itself also suffered broken glass and fences.

Sculptors and craftsmen from the Fine Arts Department are gearing up for the repair work, which is expected to be finished in two weeks’ time. The entire process will be conducted on site without the need to relocate the Brahma statue.
