BANGKOK, 20 September 2013 The Fine Arts Department has just celebrated the Thai Museums Day. It is renovating the Bovornsathanmongkol Palace, known generally as “Wang Na”.
Speaking on the 139th anniversary of Thai Museums Day, the Deputy Director General of the Fine Arts Department said the department has been renovating the Bovornsathanmongkol Palace, starting off with the Chariot House, which was last renovated in 1993. During the renovation, staff discovered a wall structure of an ancient palace, which is of architectural significance.
The Fine Arts Department also put on display the statue of Ganesha which was discovered in the Netherlands. According to the deputy director, there are only 2 of the Ganesha statues in the world, and one of them is in Thailand. The statue is believed to be over 1,000 years old. At the event Thailand’s first Buddha statue, along with other antiques, was also unveiled to the public.
