PHAYAO, 9 September 2013 A fire broke out at Phayao Hospital in Phayao province on Monday morning, triggering a mass evacuation of patients.
Phayao Hospital Director Thienchai Karuehayothin said the blaze started at a physiotherapy room before quickly engulfing other rooms in the hospital. Nurses and other staff evacuated patients and removed supplies in the rain before the fire was contained within an hour.
Initial investigation suggested that the fire was caused by the short circuit in the air breaker, following a lightning strike near the hospital.
The cost of damage is yet to be estimated but hospital staff said computers, medical supplies and beds were destroyed in the fire.
