BANGKOK, 3 August 2015  “Likay”, a stage traditional performing art of Thailand, will stage the first ever performance in Israel to promote better understanding between Thailand and Israel, as well as celebrate the National Mother’s Day 2015, Permanent Secretary of the Labour Ministry Nakorn Silpa-archa said at a press conference on Monday.

Twenty performers of the Likay troupe are from the Christian Communication Institute (CCI), Payap University. They are serving as cultural ambassadors on this trip which begins 3 August 2015 and end on 13 August. On 7 Aug, the troupe will join Bet Labem Live Festival 2015 held in Bethlehem. Three days later on 10 Aug, it will move to the Isareli capital Jerusalem.

The performance is part of the cooperation by the Thai Embassy in Israel, the non-profit humanitarian organization of Holy Land Trust (HLT), and Jerusalem authorities.

On 12 August which is observed as Thailand’s National Mother’s Day, the troupe will go to southern Israel to perform in front of Thai workers and expats living there.

The show is meant to honor Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her 83rd birthday anniversary and give moral support to the Thai nationals. It also takes this chance to promote Thai culture among Israeli employers and local residents there.

In 2014, there were 28,146 Thai workers employed in Israel. A majority, or 27,400 people, worked in the agricultural sector; 500 people in restaurants and hotels; and 200 were carers of elderly and disabled persons; and 50 others worked in construction sites.
