BANGKOK, 7 June 2013 – Some industrial estates in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani are expected to start conducting a drill to test the durability of their newly-constructed flood dykes.
Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand Weerapong Chaiyaperm said a temporary 5-kilometer earthen barrier was being heightened by 50 centimeters at the Saharattana Nakhon Industrial Estate in Ayutthaya. This 40-million-baht construction project is expected to be completed at the end of July. For long-term flood prevention, the governor revealed that a permanent concrete flood barrier would be built within next year under a budget of 300 million baht.
As for other industrial estates in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani, their completed permanent flood barriers will be tested within next month.
