BANGKOK, 11 October 2013 The government will set up flood catchment zones in Prachin Buri with funding from the 350-billion-baht water management mega project.
Given most of the flood-affected people in Prachun Buri live in the areas used to be water courses, they will most likely be hit by floods, said Secretary-General of the Strategic Committee for Water Resources Management Supot Tovichakchaikuling, adding that the planned flood catchment zones will be located in Si Mahaphot district to protect economic areas.
Mr Supot said he expected the flood situation in Prachin Buri to improve next week thanks to less rainfall. He also expected the water in the fields to be pumped out by 15 November the latest. As for industrial estates, the official assured that they would not be flooded again since the amount of water is three times smaller this year than that of 2011.
