CHONBURI, 22 Oct 2013 Amata Nakhon Industrial Zone’s Marketing Division CEO Vibul Kromadit reaffirms factories in Chonburi still operational while people in Nakhon Ratchasima are warned of massive runoff as the Lam Takhong river looks set to overflow its banks.
Mr. Vibul told the media that the flood water level in Amata Nakhon’s Phases 7-9 has decreased to 15-20 centimeters high, assuring that the majority of factories in the area are still operational. He said only 17 factories have to temporarily shut down, but only because their employees reside in the inundated areas and cannot leave their homes for work.
Nonetheless, he said Amata Nakhon has appointed officials to look after the latest flooding situation, adding the Royal Thai Navy has sent personnel, 50 drainage ships, 100 water pumps, and 500 ‘big bags’ to quickly drain water out and protect the industrial zone.
In Nakhon Ratchasima, Governor Winai Buapradit, together with his entourage, visited a flooded area at Mitrapab Soi 4 community in the Muang District as the zone has been hit with runoff and inundation for a couple of days. The officials are urgently laying down assistance measures, following speculations that during October 22-23 the area would likely face more runoff from nearby districts of Si Khiew, Soong Noen, and Kham Thalay Sor, which will effectively raise the water level in Lam Takhong Dam.
Meanwhile, flood water in Nong Bua Sala Sub-District, Muang District has receded from one meter high to 70 centimeters deep and several areas remain inundated.
