The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has alerted ten provinces in central Thailand, including Bangkok, to the potential for flooding starting September 20.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Authorities have issued another urgent flood warning for several provinces along the Chao Phraya River, as rising water levels are expected to impact low-lying areas.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has alerted ten provinces in central Thailand, including Bangkok, to the potential for flooding starting September 20. The increased water levels are a result of heavy rains and increased water flow from upstream, which will necessitate the release of more water from Chao Phraya Dam.

Residents living near the Chao Phraya River and in vulnerable low-lying areas are urged to be vigilant and prepare for potential flooding. The DDPM has advised residents to monitor water levels closely, prepare emergency supplies and evacuation plans, move valuables to higher ground, and stay updated on the latest information from official sources.

Local officials have been tasked with inspecting floodwalls and ensuring that necessary equipment and personnel are in place to assist affected communities. The DDPM has also set up a 24-hour emergency hotline (1784) for residents to report any incidents or those seeking assistance.

The DDPM has stressed the importance of taking necessary precautions and remaining vigilant as the situation develops. Residents are urged to follow the advice of local authorities and be prepared for potential flooding. (NNT)
