BANGKOK, 10 September 2014  – Four provinces are still affected by floods while the flooding situation in 25 other provinces are improving. Provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices are urgently draining flood waters out of the affected areas.

Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Chatchai Phromlert said low pressure troughs in the northern region of Thailand, strong monsoon troughs and southwestern monsoons in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea had caused heavy rains in many areas across the country since 26 September 2014. The heavy rains had led to flooding in 29 provinces, 25 of which were now less affected by floods. The four provinces where the situation had not yet improved included Sukhothai, Phichit, Nakhon Sawan and Phitsanulok.

The provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices have cooperated with relevant units in mobilizing assistance for the affected people and fix damaged public utilities.

Those still affected by floods are encouraged to contact the department’s hotline 1784 to report an incident and ask for help 24 hours a day.
