BANGKOK, Thailand – Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa expressed confidence today that Thailand-U.S. relations will remain robust regardless of the outcome of the U.S. presidential election Nov 6. Minister Maris emphasized that while Thailand awaits the final results of the closely contested election between Republican candidate Donald Trump, currently leading in polls, and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, the longstanding partnership between the two countries will continue.
In his statement, Maris noted that Thailand’s relationship with the United States is resilient and spans multiple sectors, including government, private enterprises, and people-to-people interactions. He emphasized that cooperation on trade, security, and diplomacy is deeply rooted and would not waver due to political shifts in the U.S.
“Our diplomatic ties are long-standing and strong, so regardless of who leads the U.S., our relations will remain firm and mutually beneficial,” Maris stated. He highlighted that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is committed to seeing Thailand play a proactive role on the global stage and maintain fair, beneficial partnerships with all nations.
The minister concluded by reiterating that Thailand would assess any potential policy changes after the election and engage in dialogue with the incoming U.S. Secretary of State to ensure continued alignment on shared goals. (TNA)
