BANGKOK, 19 February 2012  – The Foreign Ministry is not worried that the implication of Iranian nationals in last week’s explosions in Bangkok will push it into the ongoing conflicts between Iran and Israel.

Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed that the Office of the Attorney General is now working with the Royal Thai Police to prepare all needed documents for the extradition of another suspect in last week’s blasts.

Five people, including the bomber, were injured in 3 explosions on Soi Pridi Phanomyong 31 in Bangkok last Tuesday. So far, 2 suspects, Mohammad Hazaei and Saeid Moradi, have been detained by the Thai police and another one arrested by Malaysian authorities.

Mr. Thani said that once all documents are ready, the Foreign Ministry will approach the Malaysian government to work on the extradition of the third suspect, Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, to Thailand.

He elaborated that Malaysia can detain the wanted suspect for only 14 days, therefore, the Ministry is to complete all process within this deadline.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson is confident that Thailand’s investigation into the blasts, which involved Iranian nationals, will not put the country into the middle of the conflicts between Iran, Israel and the United States.

He also stressed that Thailand will continue to hold a neutral stance, while expressing hope that related nations will respect this country’s sovereignty and let investigators carry out the probe without interference.
