PATTANI, April 19 – A former village head was shot to death outside a mosque in this southern province.
Former village head Rosa Tayeh, 45 was shot dead outside Bansepooteh mosque In Thung Yang Daeng district. He was hit five times in a fusillade of gunfire in a drive-by shooting as he entered the mosque for Friday prayers.
Police initially believed the motive behind the killing could be related to a personal conflict, local politics or the southern insurgency.
Meanwhile, a bomb was defused near a checkpoint in Pattani’s Yaring district today.
A suspicious object was seen and the bomb disposal squad used a high pressure water gun to destroy it.
It was found to be a five-kilogramme remote-controlled time bomb.
