Four killed in Pattani blast

PATTANI, Feb 2 – A bombing in this restive southern border province on Saturday night killed a district official and three others, with five others wounded according to local police.

The incident occurred as a team of officials were driving to inspect an attack carried out by a group of at least 10 insurgent occurred around 11.30 pm last night at Pattani’s Khok Pho district.

Two home-made bombs were planted underneath the road and detonated as the team arrived, followed by several gun shots.  Pattani’s Khok Pho Deputy District Chief Jatra Promkaew, along with three soldiers were killed in the incidents.

This latest violence in a string of near daily bomb attacks in the violence-plague southern provinces also wounded two village headmen and three rangers. A police investigation is underway.
