Bangkok – The Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) has decided to adopt a more proactive strategy to drive domestic tourism and will be approaching operators to join its “Taste, Shop, Use” program.
FPO Director-General, Lawaron Saengsanit, said that about 3,300 businesses have so far applied to join the program, with registration still open until September 20, 2019. The Ministry of Commerce is targeting a total 40,000 participating businesses divided into 14,000 commercially licensed restaurants, 10,000 small sized
The office is to evaluate whether it needs to extend the registration period of the program, due to conclude in two weeks, and is also considering expanding the list of eligible products and services to better meet tourist demands.
Lawaron insisted that the program was not designed to acquire information on the businesses for the Revenue Department’s database, stating it is aimed at stimulating the economy and promoting e-payments.
