Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon has attended a meeting between national security units following bombings in many southern provinces. He instructed them to step up security measures and impose the highest punishment on those responsible for the attacks.
Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense Maj. Gen. Khongchip Tantrawanit said the meeting concluded that those who did not mean well for the country were behind the explosions. These people did not want peace in Thailand and aimed to destroy the country’s image. They wanted people to panic and wanted to undermine the public’s confidence in the government, the spokesman said.
Maj. Gen. Khongchip stated further that the deputy PM had instructed the National Council for Peace and Order to take care of the overall situation and instructed national security units to investigate a connection between the incidents. Gen. Prawit told them to remain vigilant in all areas, especially the affected areas in the South, and called on the public not to panic, said the spokesman.
Gen. Prawit denounced the incidents and urged instigators of violence to stop hurting people and the country. (NNT)
