Gen Prayuth bids farewell to Army

BANGKOK, Sept 29 Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha, prime minister and chief of the National Council for Peace and Order, who remain in military service through his last day tomorrow, said he was proud of his military service that lasted 38 years. 

Gen Prayuth said he would like those remaining in the service to restore peace in the far South within this year to prepare for Thailand’s participation in the ASEAN Community next year.

Gen Prayuth attended a farewell ceremony in his honor at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy in Nakhon Nayok. with 262 generals present.

“Throughout the 38 years of my service, there is not a single day when I regretted or was discouraged from working for the army because the work has honour, dignity and challenges.

“Now I step aside to let those of the new generation proceed with the work. I would like all armed forces to be strong and work for the public interest. As Army commander-in-chief, I have always worked for the nation, religions and His Majesty the King without any personal interest,” the Army chief said.

Gen Prayuth told his junior officers to proceed to develop the Army’s human resources and weaponry to strengthen security operations to cope with old threats against sovereignty and new threats of competition in the ASEAN Community and conflicts in the country.

“Solutions to violence in the South need time to create understanding. I would like the problem to be solved within this year to ensure progress simultaneously with the formation of the ASEAN Community,” the Army chief said.

National police chief Pol Gen Adul Sangsingkeo, also minister of social development and human security bade, farewell to his police service at the Police Aviation Division on Ram Intra Road also due to his retirement.

He said he was deeply attached to the Police Aviation Division in his past 38 years of police service.

He also encouraged police to work for the public and national interest and he, as the minister of social development and human security, would speed up the suppression of all kinds of human trafficking, solutions to the poor and preparation for the aging society.
