BANGKOK, 25 May 2014– The Chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has explained that the transfers of senior officials including the national police chief are not intended to lessen the honor of the officials or their agencies. He has also urged all personnel to coordinate with the acting officials, according to the army deputy spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree.

Everything will be done to build trust among members of society. People should have understanding for the plight of the transferred officials and refrain from showing contempt towards them because they are not regarded as having committed any wrongdoing. The transfers have been made for the sake of operational suitability in the current situation, Col Winthai said.

As for the persons summoned to report to the NCPO, they are detained in suitable places and their honor is respected; many of them are currently being released. They cannot be detained longer than seven days under law. Any individual held on an arrest warrant will be subject to court proceedings from May 26 onwards, he added.
