BANGKOK, 11 April 2014  – General Prem Tinsulanonda, Privy Council President and Statesman, declined to give any opinion about the ongoing political turmoil, but urged that all media present news that benefits the country.

General Prem said it was not true that he had been asked to act as a mediator to help settle differences between Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and People’s Democratic Reform Committee’s (PDRC) leader Suthep Thaugsuban, adding that he was not the right man to do such a job.

As for the possibility of him becoming a neutral prime minister, Gen Prem declined to make any comment, but called on the media to refrain from stirring up the already deepened conflict and to present news that would only promote peace and unity among Thais.

Earlier, the Privy Council president gave a speech to a forum of Thai youths coming from the violence-torn southern provinces, telling them that each individual had the responsibility to protect and develop the nation regardless of the religion one may believe in.
