RAYONG, Feb 26 – A five-year-old girl who was wounded in an attack on an anti-government rally in the eastern seaboard province of Trat was pronounced dead yesterday.
The girl, identified as Natchaya Rosoongnern, had been hospitalised at a hospital in neighbouring Rayong province.
She was shot in the head at a rally site of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) decided to unfreeze the bank accounts of 38 key PDRC leaders in accord with the Civil Court’s ruling which allowed Seri Wongmontha, a PDRC leader, to withdraw money from his CMPO-frozen accounts.
Tarit Pengdith, CMPO member and Department of Special Investigation (DSI) director general, called on conflicting parties in the political unrest, to be patient and avoid public activities that could lead to violence given the deteriorating domestic situation.
He said the DSI would seek the Constitution Court’s verdict on whether the PDRC’s demonstrations are lawful or not, in order to take the judgement to substantiate an appeal with the court.
The Civil Court earlier allowed the government to continue enforcing the state of emergency but prohibited the CMPO from cracking down on PDRC protesters who have demonstrated peacefully.
The CMPO plans to appeal the Civil Court’s ruling.
