BANGKOK, Thailand – Mr. Karan Bajwa, President of Google Cloud Asia-Pacific, met with Thai Prime Minister Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra at the Government House on January 6. Government spokesperson Mr. Jirayu Huangsap summarized the key points of the discussion as follows:

The Prime Minister and the Google Cloud President expressed mutual satisfaction with the ongoing close collaboration between Google and the Thai government in the digital domain, which began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Google and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society in 2023. Today’s meeting presented an opportunity to deepen this cooperation, particularly in cybersecurity and online scam prevention—issues that are a top priority for the Prime Minister and her administration. The Prime Minister welcomed Google’s commitment to partnering in addressing these challenges.

Google praised the Thai government’s focus on tackling cyberattacks and online scams, which have been escalating in severity, with public sector agencies often being primary targets of cyber threats. Online scams have also significantly impacted Thai citizens. To address these issues, Google announced its readiness to collaborate with the government by establishing a dedicated unit to safeguard the country’s critical information infrastructure. This unit will monitor, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity threats and incidents in real time. Additionally, Google pledged to work closely with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to combat online fraud in Thailand using advanced technologies to detect and block malicious applications.

The Prime Minister expressed her appreciation for Google’s willingness to support the government in strengthening cybersecurity—a key area of focus for her administration. She instructed the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to engage in further discussions with Google to enhance Thailand’s cybersecurity capabilities. The collaboration aims to protect Thai citizens from scams, develop policies to bolster the resilience of Thai agencies against complex cyber threats, and proactively prevent online fraud to safeguard the public interest.
